Cast Spells and Native April 30th

Cast Spells

Native

Cast Spells and Native will be playing a Free show on April 30th at the last Live From Bloomington NOISE show. If you aren’t familiar with LFB or NOISE, Live From Bloomington is a programming committee that is part of Union Board, IU’s largest student programming organization on campus. LFB started a weekly concert series back in 2006 called NOISE, in which bands performed free all-ages concerts in the IU student union. So Go Hit that if you live anywhere near Bloomington, IN and make sure to check out the Hipster Spinster Blog - we love her!

The Sargent House Glass Room Sessions

Some of you may not know that before there was Sargent House we had a show called Refused TV (that link is to the old show site ). Anyway, it was excellent, what would you expect right? We used to have bands come and host the show - not in a corny way but in a funny way, we would have them star in fake commercials for stuff that doesn't exist, like this one we did with The French Kicks - we miss our show so we have decided to launch the The Sargent House Glass Room Sessions where we have bands come in and in one take with two cameras they perform a song - then we will share them with you here. Yes there are other places out there doing things like this and you know what, we enjoy those so much we decided there was still room for more things like this. The Glass Room has had a lot of videos shot in her. We will post them all, in our little series here but for now lets all take a look at this most recent one from Cast Spells - that's Dave Davison's solo gig and we are really excited to be putting out his first EP called Bright Works And Baton this Summer. Below is him stripping it down and playing a song called A Badge

And speaking of Dave Davison here is one of the very first Sargent House Glass Room Sessions we did with none other than old Double D himself - one take - Maps & Atlases - The Ongoing Horrible

LET US KNOW WHO YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE PLAY THE GLASS ROOM???

Our Friends Are On Vacation

So our pals over at Hydra Head decided to take a Vacation by opening a beautiful vinyl record store so go check that place out and bring money! Of course they are too cool to tell anyone they have this record store so I'm going to. Wow, I forgot how much I miss the ritual of going to real record stores, with people who actually listen to music working there. Record Store Day reminds me that the Old times, feel like the New times and they are the still Good Times.

But if the audiophiles working there "Jack Black" the shit out of you for asking for certain records - just give some attitude back by Picketing their store with signs like this - and then you'll all get along great.

A big thank you to any and all record stores that put our records in your store, we really appreciate it - of course Vacation did not put any of our records in their store. Thanks Mark Thompson, you're a real pal.

Also check out Origami Records they just opened down the street from us to, and they had our records in their store and we don't even know them!

Sargent House is Calling All Artists! Need Merch Designs

Ok, so every time most of our bands get ready for a tour we are faced with the ongoing nightmare that is finding good new merch designs for them. We check out people's stuff, it looks awesome then 9 out of 10 times what they send us is some flash art generic, I could have done that myself in 3 minutes looking thing! Or they send some design that I've already seen a million times on some inter-changable Emo band shirt - that just shouts "You really know NOTHING about the vibe of this band do you?" It's driving us crazy over here at Sargent House So we are making a call out to anyone and everyone that thinks they might be able to help! Below is a list of all the bands I need new designs for with links to be able to check out their tunes. We are only looking for designs that really understand the esthetic of the band individually. Now, unlike other places that pull this crap and call it a "contest" aka trying to make you work hard for free, we are willing to PAY for any design that we would want to print - we will give you $75 and a free album of your choosing from the Sargent House Collection - so come on let's see what you got, we need you, so make it good and we'll just keep loving you forever.

WE NEED T-SHIRTS & HOODIE DESIGNS FOR:

Good Old War
Russian Circles
RX Bandits
Maps & Atlases
Cast Spells
Love You Moon
Red Fang
bygones
Native
Daughters
Sargent House ( that's right go for it)

Then send us a jpg ( preferably both ways detail and mocked up on shirt or hoodie) to: mgmt@sargenthouse.com

The Classic "Justification" for Stealing Music

READ - STUFF WHITE PEOPLE LIKE - MUSIC PIRACY HERE
I love this website called Stuff White People Like, I feel stupid I did not know about it until recently. Because being a 'white person' of course obligates me to laugh at how 'white' white people can be. But this particular story really caught my eye because damn if it is not 100% true and the exact bullshit justifications I get from all you bastard leaking bloggers who think they can justify giving away ENTIRE albums of my broke ass, hard working bands who actually DO see the money from their album sales so to all you doing this thinking it's okay to just give it away whithout asking for FREE, it's not ok, so FUCK YOU and stop! because your killing bands that deserve your money! I mean your not blogging about the new Hoobastank with a full free torrent, no your recommending some small, underground awesome band that would be so much better suited getting your "help" by you writing about them and recommending them to people to go and buy their record! Heck host a track or two, or point them to the bands site or myspace where the person can for FREE hear songs - but for god sakes STOP giving away albums in their entirety for free on your fucking blogs!

and to all you bloggers that do just "review" albums with links THANK YOU, you are the true music lovers

Liv Is An Innovator

Now, Livia Tortella, I can truly say is an Innovator, I work with her at Atlantic Records as a music video commissioner - look it up if you don't know what that means. This fine woman restores my faith every day that there are people who love Music at Major Labels. She's a seriously passionate and committed person and someone I'm very happy to call my friend and she 'gets it' much love and respect for AP getting right about her because she truly is an innovator - chicks rule.
