David Davison Feature by Bobby Markos

This feature on David Davison really makes us smile. First because, we love him and think he is one of the most important new voices in music today. So much so, he is doing A&R for Sargent House. He's also the mastermind and musical savant behind Cast Spells and Maps & Atlases. But what really makes this one so sweet is it was written by Bobby Markos who plays bass and sings in Native,  for his college paper. Great Job Mr. College guy you picked a subject we love and covered it very nicely.

"Dave Davison may hail from Schererville, but his voice and guitar playing are becoming known all over the world. Through his nationally known indie-rock band, Maps & Atlases, and his solo project, Cast Spells, Davison found an outlet for his greatest passion: rock music delivered with unconventional musicianship."

Good Old War Glass Room Session

Good Old War perform "My Own Sinking Ship" for the Sargent House Glass Room Sessions. Big ups to The Music Slut for premiering on their fine site.

Red Sparowes Interview with HardRockChick

"The post-rock band Red Sparowes have been creating mind expanding soundscapes since the early 2000’s. From the basement dressing room of the Great American Music Hall, with a sleeping merch guy on a couch behind me, I chatted with 3/5 of the band about the beginning through the now. It was very much apparent that Red Sparowes has an agenda for their fans, and that’s to let them create their own experience from their music. It was an interview that made me leave feeling smarter." - Click Here To Read Full Interview

Omar Rodriguez Lopez & John Frusciante - Free For All

It is with such great pleasure that we announce the release of this special album through Rodriguez Lopez Productions. It was made quite some time ago between two very close friends and two amazing musicians. When Omar and I talked about releasing this he had always said it was something he did not want to sell, that he felt strongly about having it be free as it was never done for any kind of commercial reason, nor was it recorded in some big studio or mixed and mastered by some big expensive place. It was an honest release of music amongst two people who share a bond and love for making it. I love that thinking and feeling. I asked him if we could do something that reflected this honest love of creating. So we decided to use our digital store system so we could make it free for anyone, but also offer people to be able to donate what they could and to then give any money raised to something we all find to be so important here and that is the continuation of art and music to be nurtured, exposed and available to all people. So you can go and download this album by Omar Rodriguez Lopez & John Frusciante for FREE in any file size by entering $0.00 when prompted - it will ask for your email but you don't have to stay subscribed to our mailing list if you don't want to either. Or you can fill in any amount you might care to donate to benefit "Keeping Music In Schools" programs. We will be donating all the proceeds to different schools and organizations that help provide instruments, and teachers, supporting great mentors that will encourage creativity. This release is just one of more to come that will be charity albums from Sargent House and Rodriguez Lopez Productions.

Each one teach one.

An Interview with Director Darren Doane

Now some of you may not know this but Cathy Pellow (that's me) has also got some knowledge in the Music Video department. At least Director Darren Doane knows that! Check out a very interesting interview with a guy who I love back and whom I am always delighted to work with when I have to go and make something "Right" for any artist.
We've done a lot of videos together ....

"They were the kinds of projects where someone said – usually Cathy Pellow, who is a phenomenal asset to music videos in general as a commissioner. Cathy would always say, “Just get on the phone with Darren.” So that’s Mraz, Caillat, Shinedown, Buck Cherry. I don’t have that many hits, but those hits were because Cathy Pellow got on the phone." how's that for patting myself on the back & speaking in the third person about myself. Thanks for the kind words Darren. You are the man.

Lisa Papineau's Red Trees!! It's Release Day Tuesday

"Lisa Papineau is anything but your standard run of the mill singer songwriter. This vocalist, songwriter, wunderkind extraordinare is known for her vocal contributions to Air and M83 as well as teaming up with Mars Volta member Juan Alderete de la Pena in Big Sir and those are just some of things she's worked on that have helped shaped her unusual approach to songwriting. Her latest album, Red Trees, sees a whole host of people returning the favor and collaborating with her to create a varied and dense album that's so far away from being just another singer/songwriter record it's hard to even type that phrase." - Click To Read Full Review

Rolling Stone Names Good Old War in Top 5 To Watch

Good Old War: Two-thirds of this folk-pop outfit (guitarist Keith Goodwin and drummer Tim Arnold) were originally part of the Fueled By Ramen-signed band Days Away. After joining up with guitarist Dan Schwartz, the trio started writing songs filled with tight harmonies, jangly guitars and memorable, country-tinged melodies. Their mid-day Sunday set was a welcome change of pace, and the band is currently touring the country preparing to release its self-titled second disc on June 1st.

Zechs Marquise Interview on Ryan's Rock Show

"Meet Zechs Marquise, one of the most badass bands to come out of the Southwest since At The Drive-In. Now let me tell ya, these guys experienced albums like "Acrobatic Tenement" first hand. In fact, two of the dudes in Zechs -- Marcel Rodriguez Lopez and Marfred Rodriguez Lopez -- are the younger siblings of the infamous ex-ATDI/Mars Volta guitarist Omar Rodriguez Lopez (it should also be noted that Marcel plays percussion in the Volta as well). These gentlemen, along with their childhood chums Matt Wilkson and Marcos Smith, have joined forces to create an instrumental aphrodisiac for your ears that will make your mind cream its medulla."

Nick Sadler does It Again - Daughters Pitchfork Review

Well even if Lex wants to shit on the new Daughters album which is 100 times better than anything they have done before and then complain about Nick Sadler for writing such a "bad" album, but then go take his writer credit off the album once everyone says it's really good. Well fuck it. Pitchfork gives the new album an 8.2 and at least they acknowledge Nick's role. Bummed at Lex and hope one day all the boys will reunite in this line up and perform this bad ass album. I miss those Daughters.

PITCHFORK REVIEW - 8.2
"This isn't technically Daughters' final album, but after recording, half the band quit, and whatever the remaining members (vocalist Alexis Marshall and drummer Jonathan Syverson) come up with in the future probably won't sound much like this. In a February 2010 interview with Noisecreep.com, Marshall all but says so while discussing the new album: "[Former guitarist] Nick [Sadler] wrote a lot of the stuff on there, and he was really looking to make it accessible, and see how it fared... There are definitely parts of the record that were written to see how people will respond, which is kind of disappointing."

If Sadler's name sounds familiar, it's probably from the decidedly non-Daughters-like charms of his other group, Fang Island. While he's not officially credited as a songwriter-- the songs on Daughters are attributed to the entire group-- Sadler is listed as a co-producer, which might explain the album's relatively less abrasive sound." - CLICK TO READ FULL REVIEW
